Members of the Episcopal

Church of the Good Shepherd in Maitland, Fla., have voted to withhold their diocesan assessment of $11,626 in protest against the ordination as a priest of Ellen M. Barrett, 30, an avowed lesbian.

The group's resolution called homosexuality "abhorrent to God" and said the action by Bishop Paul Moore of New York had brought "shame and disgrace upon the Episcopal Church."

The Rev. Philip Weeks, rector of the church, said the congregation did not intend to split from the national church, as one group did last week. Protests were sent to Bishop Moore and Bishop William H. Folwell of Central Florida.
